Fly Tying Classes

GabrielsTrumpetGoldTFFRWe offer fly tying instruction for beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.  All classes run four consecutive Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Rick Hamel, with more than 30 years of experience fly fishing, guiding, casting instruction and professional fly-tying, teaches these classes.

Class schedule for 2006-07:

1st class – Nov. 27, Dec. 4, Dec. 11 & Dec. 18

2nd class – Jan. 8, 15, 22 & 29

3rd class – Feb. 5, 12, 19 & 26

4th class – March 5, 12, 19 & 26

Nature Photography Class

Professional photographer and outdoor writer Alan Briere hosts a two session class designed to help you improve your outdoor photo skills with 35mm SLR photography.  Workshops were held in April and May this year.  The workshop fee is $75 per person. Age limit 16 years and up.  Contact Alan at the store for information about future classes.

Spring & Summer Fly Fishing Schools

Hanover Outdoors’ Fly Fishing School is taught by an ORVIS endorsed Guide (who also happens to be a registered Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont guide). Now in our ninth year, the classes are noted for the high level of expertise and professionalism. We look forward to introducing you to the world of fly fishing and helping you become more proficient at this great sport. (Note: instruction for more advanced fly fishers is also available).

Class Information

Our school includes the following:

  • Friday evening from 5:45 to 9:00 pm – Introductory session (including snacks and beverages) where students meet the instructor, go over the Saturday program – what to wear, what to bring, any special dietary needs, travel arrangements and other logistics.
  • Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM – Classroom, dry land and streamside instruction – information on equipment, casting, reading the water, entomology, knots, fly selection and safe wading techniques.
  • Continental breakfast and full lunch on Saturday.
  • All equipment provided.

Registration

The fee for our school is $160.00. A non-refundable deposit of $60.00 is required at the time of registration. (If you are unable to attend the class you are registered for, the deposit may be applied to any other class scheduled during the same calendar year). Phone registration is possible with the use of a credit card. Otherwise, registration must be in person. (Note: If you are using a  Gift Certificate as payment for the class, the certificate must be surrendered at the time of registration).
